This is the true story behind my picture. . .
When my picture got taken it took place in the old Ag room, it was a bunch of us green-hands working together to get both balls around to the other side. My friend Shelbi and I both had a ball and we had to pass a ball to each other with our elbows without dropping it. It was extremely hard but it was also really funny. The entire game itself lasted maybe ten minutes, but the person who inspired the game was really cool. She was a FFA Vice President from the State of Missouri FFA Organization. She encouraged us to play the game as a team working exercise.
Natasha: FFA always has these competitions that are super fun. The whole chapter gets together and we make up teams. By the end of the day we have a grand champion. This year it was my team that won. The winnings aren’t great but the bragging rights are awesome. The last competition was kind of like hokey pokey but you had to put a volleyball between your arms and not let it drop. Your team started out with 10 points and every time you dropped it you lost a point. Points of course were added up in the end. We won with a total of 100 points which is the most points you can get. Basically we did awesome! I cannot wait for the games next year. Hopefully our team will triumph again!
ReplyDeleteA group of FFA officers and members decided that they would get together and have a party. Half of the people in the party decided that the party would be more fun if some of the girls danced first. The other half thought that it was more fun to watch the girls dance instead of joining in on the fun. Before Natasha finally noticed it, she started laughing. The girl in front of her was being quite silly and hilarious that she couldn’t help herself from laughing. The boys tried to keep themselves from laughing and had on a straight face. The silly girl in the front started dancing around to the song that was sung by Will Smith’s daughter “I whip my hair back and forth,” Everyone in the FFA class couldn’t help but grin at the silliness of that girl and kept rooting her on. Natasha held the ball between her arms and tried really hard not to drop the ball. She was obviously trying her best and in the end she dropped the ball but she enjoyed herself and the game.
ReplyDelete“No cheating!” Allen yelled from across the room, “And if you drop that ball, you’re out!”
ReplyDeleteIt was the annual FFA Christmas party. Everyone was clad in their official FFA dress and there was only one rule: everyone must participate. The games were silly and the laughs were abundant, and that’s just the way the group wanted it.
Natasha held the ball between her forearms and reached forward to hand the ball off to her friend. It all happened frame-by-frame, seemingly in slow motion, as the ball rolled from its original position and fell to the ground, bouncing as it hit.
“And she’s out!” came the voice from earlier, dragging out the last word as an announcer at a horse track would.
Natasha fake sulked and stepped out of the circle. She didn’t really mind though, it was more fun to watch anyway.
– this is a few years ago and for some reason they are in AG doing something with FFA I see Ryan in the back ground being amused by what he is watching and Natasha with volleyball between her forearms and another girl in front of her doing the same. A guy could hope they are doing this just for fun but one can never be sure. If it were my game I could try and throw the ball at the persons head in front of me using only my forearms. That would be a good task to practice but this is FFA and I know that the likely hood of that happening is slim to none. Natasha is happy none of the less so it is possibly fun. Well she is smiling anyway
ReplyDeleteTasha: The students participating in FFA were all having a great time because they had just finished their final major project except there was one final thing to do to pass the course. They had to do survival for the fittest to learn survival skills. The event they were working on was the “what if.” The what if consisted of a series of tasks they had to do if they had lost a limb. Their “what if” was What if your arms were cut off from your elbows down. Each person had to find a way to carry five balls that ranged in size from one basket to the other but they had to race one other person. Two girls were trying to attempt this game of life and so far they’ve had just about the same idea. Everyone stood in a circle watching as they others were running around like two chickens with their heads cut off. In the end the girls both succeeded and they were victorious in their survival skills as well as passing the FFA course of that year.
ReplyDeleteFFA is holding a small classroom activity involving only the club members. The objective is to be able to hold the ball and slide it between your pits without using the palm of your hands. Natasha laughs as she is playing the game and thoroughly enjoys the club. As the other members watch the players struggle, they gossip and giggle about how silly they look. A minute or two flies by and Natasha was able to successfully place the ball between her pits and win the game. The president of the FFA lost the round and was knocked out of the game. In respect, Natasha and the president of FFA shake hands, congratulate each other, and pass on the ball to the next players behind them. It was a good day to remember for Natasha because that was a moment that she could smile and live with. Too bad that the day had to end for that year’s FFA club members.
ReplyDeleteNatasha Carpenter: There are many different kinds of clubs in high school but one that teaches you money and farming would happen to be Future Farmers of America. Future Farmers learn the different types of cows and different breeds, they cook and take care of horse and chicken and other animals. This club takes several trips throughout the year some just to get to know each other. They talk about their animals they take care of daily and summer jobs they have. Several students from each grade and schools all over the county come to these conventions so it’s good to do these activities to get to know one another. These are called ice breaker games, so people don’t feel so awkward. One game they have you have to give and receive the volleyball with just your elbows, it is very difficult but also very funny so that everyone gets a good laugh.
ReplyDeleteThe FFA is preparing for their banquet and doing some team building exercises. First they pass a ball around only a circle only using their elbows. Then they get in a circle and each grab someone’s hand across from them, and then they must untangle themselves from the group. They spin, turn, and climb over each other’s arms and after one hour of all of this they finally untangle themselves and stand in a straight line. Then while they are standing in a straight line they try to get a hula hoop all the way through the line. Each person individually crouching and kicking the hula hoop over to the next person. “Great team work,” the teacher exclaims.
ReplyDelete“You can’t use your hands!” the boys shouted as Lexi tried to maneuver the ball from the floor the arms of the boy standing next to her. They had only been at the FFA convention for fifteen minutes before they forced the group to perform an embarrassing, albeit fun, task in front of the peers they were just trying to impress. The girl next to lexi had managed to get the ball to the same position and was now so frustrated she just decided to heave it across to the other side of the circle, laughing all the way. The other girls were having a great time while the guys just stood there wondering how this had anything to do with farming. “I came here to learn about cows.” Nick said to the shaggy haired boy next to him. “I just wanted to meet some chicks!” he retorted, “and they’re just talking to each other."
ReplyDeleteIn this here photo is an event known as the volleyball passing. This group of young FFA students shown here participating in it are making a valiant attempt but fail multiple times before they get it correct. The area 11 pierce city chapter is not known for its well-balanced teams but for its hard work and dedication to that event. We try hard and fail but we will never give it up till we win at it. Some call this type of “club” a cult because of the word inside of it but it is not so these are hardworking individuals more so than others here but they try none-the-less to achieve an improbable goal to call their own.
